Weekend Rides, Labor Day Weekend

Got this message from Dr. Madosky, a good fried of cycling in St. Louis and Concordia Seminary. Anyone else got the legs yet?:

"On Saturday September 1st I will be riding an 80 mile course from here (Richmond Hts) through Illinois via the Chain of Rocks bridge. It is a relatively flat course and I would like to average 16-18 mph (depending upon the wind). I anticipate leaving no later than 6:30 am and would enjoy the company of any other Concordia riders. This is an MS 150 training ride for me."

Post here if interested and I can forward you his e-mail.

The route Dr. Madosky is taking for this ride is basically the Century ride we'll do in October. Can you describe your route to get down to the arch? We usually go through Forest Park, the W. Pine, then Laclede, up to Lindell, cross 40 at Compton, and then Chouteau to the riverfront. Maybe you have a better way?

I will go through the park traveling to the south of BJC trying to avoid Lindell because they have recently tarred and laid gravel. I believe Boyle is the north/south street that intersects W. Pine then through SLU and onto Olive to the Riverfront Trail. The route through Illinois does not include the bike path that runs to Alton but instead uses a combination of roads and trails through Edwardsville and Pontoon Beach before returning to the Chain of Rocks bridge. I will send you the route in an e-mail attachment.

The exact route:

In Forest Park at south end:

1. Wells - east
2. Wells becomes Clayton at Kingshighway
3. Lt - Boyle
4. Rt - West Pine - use walkway to the north of what appears to be a dead end.
5. Continue on W. PIne and enter SLU campus
6. Lt - at water fountain on capmus
7. Rt - Lindell
8. Lindell becomes Olive
9. Lt - Tucker (or any other northbound street in the city
10. Rt - Washington
11. Jog right then left by north end of Arch grounds which takes you down to riverfront
12. Lt - at riverfront to Riverfront Trail.

I know it seems complicated through SLU but you avoid Lindell which has too many entrances from stores and fast food places and is a mucvh more enjoyable route.
